I arrived a little late but managed to register. It was fairly windy and around 68ish. I talked with a few temamates and then it was time to go to the time trial course. I heard “Oh its not so bad” a few times so I wasn’t too worried. Well I warmed up and it was my time to go. Just as I was about to head off a tractor trailer came rolling by. I started off and the tractor trailer started to turn so i had to slow down and pass it on the right. I managed to avoid the huge pothole filled with water and I turned up the hill. I was going at a good pace of around 20-21mph and I thought this was how the hill was going to be the whole way up. Wrong I looked up and boom hill. I spun up the hill at around 13-14mph and my legs felt terrible for some reason. A bunch of teammates passed me as they went down the hill for the return trip back to the parking lot and they gave me some encouragement. I then stood up and tried to sustain at least 15mph but I just wasn’t feeling it so i dropped back down to about 12mph or so. I then saw another hill and thought “Oh this must be the finish” because I saw a bunch of guys who started 4 or 5 places before me heading down the hill. I was wrong I still had another 200 or 300 yards to go. At around 200 yards to go a guy in a yellow jersey passed me and I paced myself off of him. I then tried to pass him, but he began to sprint. I finished with a time of 11:04.

I went back down the hill and didn’t have to pedal once(34-35mph)

. I reached the parking lot and met up with a bunch of teammates. I talked to Andy Ross and he said he got a time of 11:02 so I thought I did pretty well because he was an alternate last year. The results came back and the fastest time was 9:14!! WOW!!… The 6th place person got 10min flat.. I found out I placed 19th or something like that for the time trial. Pretty good considering there was 30 something riders. Not 2 minutes after I knew my time the points race started. We clipped in and some guy went and was gone for the first 3 laps. We eventually passed him and he looked cooked. Around lap 9(of 18) Andy Ross and I took a lead on a downhill section and held it until we got into the headwind. The whole group flew by us and I was dropped trying to keep up. I then met Wayne and we rode together until we were lapped I tried to jump on the break away group with Glen Swan but they were way too fast. We were then caught by the main group and I jumped in with them. On the hill going into the finish I had to pull off the group or I would have been DQ’d. Then I would sprint back up and join them again. I did this until there was 2 laps to go (3 for me). They then dropped me on the downhill part and I was left alone. There was no one in sight. I then rode 2 laps and the official said to stop. I then got placed 16th or something like that(out of 30 something) . A lot of guys quit I guess.

As I was awaiting the results I helped with the cat 4/5 race. I got to ring the Prime bell =]. The results were posted and I wasn’t on the list and I told the girl in charge and she said I raced pretty hard and would put me in 20th. The ESG team was made and I was 17th. Which means if 7 guys can’t make it I’m in Woo!

It was a fun race (except for maybe the time trial and the being dropped part). And I’ll be training hard so I don’t get dropped again.
